The Juggling Author and Kindle Scout with Jim Heskett

Jobs, families, and other responsibilities can feel like hurdles on the path to finishing a novel and achieving success as an author. In episode 06 of the Indie Author’s Journey Podcast, we talk with award-winning post-apocalyptic and crime thriller author Jim Heskett about how he not only publishes multiple books each year, but recently was awarded a publishing contract through Amazon’s Kindle Scout program, all while juggling a family, full-time job, and an author business.

Significant Quotes:

“You can read a million writing books, and you can take a million courses, but there’s absolutely no substitute for putting your butt in the chair and writing fiction.”

“I’m able to write a whole lot faster now because of a few simple things. One is that I don’t need to edit a draft into infinity.”

“I think the key for anybody if you’re going to try to manage your own business like this is to be very very diligent about the to-do list.”

“I think the main question you have to ask yourself is, ‘How bad do you want it?'”

My pleasure, Jim. The fact that you are willing to take time from your busy schedule to help other authors says a lot about you, and all my interaction with you has been first-class.
